Weekly Rant

Shipping status from FedEx. Last week, I ordered clothing for my next snowboard trip from a local store. The problem is that I ordered it online. From a local store. Yes. A local store. I tried in the past to purchase some of the items in-store but I was kindly asked to sit at a computer and order from there when the merchandise I had in mind of purchasing was only a few feet away from me, which was untouchable and un-see-able. Lame-sauce. I believe locals should be able to freely shop at the store itself and not have to order online. Although, I had qualified for free shipping and returns/exchanges can be brought to the store, which are perks, but if I were to exchange the items, I would have to re-order online. Yes. Total Lame-sauce. Online shopping isn't the same as in-store shopping.

Hay un problema?

Weekly rantings? So a reader recently informed me that they don't enjoy reading my weekly rants. The outrage of this issue! Well buddy, my weekly rant is here to stay. Why? 1. It's my blog. 2. I like to rant. 3. Don't tell me what to blog about unless you're paying me to do so. 4. If you don't like it, don't read it. 5. It's my stress reliever. 6. It's easier to write. 7. Weekly rants makes me smile. Lucky 7. 7 reasons why. Enjoy.

Weekly Rant

There have been many instances where rape goes unreported because often the women feels as if she put herself in that dangerous situation and blames herself, therefore she felt that it would be wrong to report such a monstrous act. How about another incident where a women is too scared to say no to her rapist and "plays along" thus making her a victim of violence? Seriously, when does this type of thinking end? Sometimes I wonder if I am guilty of such thoughts.

Abrupt change in weather

What's with this sudden cooler weather? My body is achy. I hate how my body cannot adjust to sudden changes in weather. My joints are in pain and my stomach feels funny. I need to listen to my body today and take a break from logging my miles or this day will not end well.

Weekly Rant

My morning commute on the RT light rail service in Sacramento is usually relaxing for me. It's where other sleepy/grouchy passengers keep their distant in order to not be disturbed by "nonsense" on their way to work and for people who have nothing better to do but to ride the light rail around town and/or jump on other trains to pass their considerable ample amount of free time. What I've witness so far from my 2 years of riding the RT is there are some passengers who quietly reads a novel before they may loose a chance to do so during their eight to five grueling hours of work. There are others who just snooze off on the train, as well as the typical business people checking their Blackberries 24/7. Then there's me. The anti-stressed. I like to glaze my eyes around at anything and everything, especially if I'm pumped up and energized from an early morning run. I like to people watch or just peer out the window at the outside world just to be with my own thoughts. Riding the RT in the morning is something I enjoy very much due to the peacefulness I get. It somewhat relaxes me. Due to my so-called relaxation theory on riding a public transportation in the morning, you can tell that I don't like to be bothered. When I'm on the morning train, no one forces their small chit chats on me or count my freckles or talk loudly on their cell phones or rudely pollutes my space with their smell. Although, this morning was a bit different. The area I sat around was empty as people left for their stops. I knew at that moment that I will be going through two stops with nothing but peaceful bliss - that is until some dopey kid came by and sat his ass down across from me. I guess he didn't see the other empty seats scattered across the train. Since he looked young, I figured he was either going to ask me: One, for change (this happens often in downtown) or two, where was this train's next stop. Instead, he bothered me with some nonense. Some Kid: mumble mumble Me: I'm sorry, but what??? Some Kid: *bewildered look* mumble mumble Me: *annoyed face* Can you speak up? I can't understand you. Some Kid: *angrily looks at me* mumble mumble Me: *thinks to self, is this kid fuckin serious??* What?!?!?! I can't understand you. Some Kid: *gives me an unpleasant sigh* I was wondering if I could get your name and number. Me: *happy that he finally stopped mumbling* Oh!!! No. Some Kid: *stands up in a lazy teenage fashion* daaammmnnn man. Me: *goes back to relaxation mood for the next 8 minutes* That incident didn't really bother me, but I just found it funny how I easily went from my stern NO back to my relaxation mood.

Weekly Rant

I've been sucked into the Annie Le homicide case and have become irritable at how little updates there has been about the case. Last week, I wanted some sort of a happy ending - actually, a more realistic one. Here is one that I had imagined last week before the tragic Sunday. I figured the professor she was an assistant too was somehow involved in her disappearance since he had canceled class the same time her disappearance was noticed. I had hoped that maybe he kidnapped her since she witnessed something (I haven't yet thought about what that something is yet) that he wasn't supposed to be doing. All I wanted was for her to alive and well. Now I read that a body has been found stuffed into the wall in the basement lab. Of course, it isn't yet confirmed that it's her, but I have this horrible sinking feeling about this. I feel like crap. I'm starting to hate watching the news. That's my weekly rant for the week.

My Labor Day Weekend Rant

I had a relatively, effortless, unproductive Labor Day weekend. It was nice to just lounge around the house with an arm full of furry critters with whiskered faces. Due to my lack of unproductive-ness, I haven't been inspired to write anything significant. Writers block, perhaps. I missed one of my good ol' friend's birthday dinner on Saturday evening because I had no car (I'm still car-less!) and didn't want to pester people into giving me rides. Would've been great to go because I wanted to show off the scars of my mosquito bites from Cambodia and Vietnam - bastard insects. So here I am, sitting in my office waiting for the legislatures to begins their floor session. It's currently 9:30am, they were suppose to start at 9am, these guys never start on time. *shakes head* Last night I saw a ripened large banana sitting on the kitchen counter and decided to whip up some good ol' fashion homemade banana bread. I'm so glad I did because now I have something healthy to snack on during the work hours rather than starving my buns off. I'd rather starve than feed my body cheap-processed-packaged snacks. I used to dislike how there are mini marts within 20 steps of my office building because I would mindlessly walk inside and walk out with $20+ worth of things I didn't need. I had no control over my ugly habits at the time. However, all that has changed when I started to...- when I began to...- ...hmm. I don't know why I stopped. Can a person really change their way of thought without much planning? O_O .::BREAKING NEWS::. Duvall removed from committee after vulgar comments caught on tape!!! He's an Assemblymember with the California legislature whom I've seen several times when I'm working, but I've never had any business to deal with his office since the organization I work for isn't one of his constituents. This is hilarious because it's making me wonder what exactly does "family values" mean these days when politicans like Duvall, keep repeating that phrase. Here's the article from sacbee if you're so interested in reading.

Frustrations, frustrations, frustrations

A close friend as I were exchanging emails back and forth about upcoming plans for the next few weeks and she used a phrase that just irks me. I've asked her dozens and dozens of times (literally) during the five years of our friendship to refer my significant others as either A. their given first names or B. boyfriends. My requests had always gone ignored. However, today it finally occurred to me that I should explain to her my complicated, emotional reason for why I hated the term "your man" as opposed to "your boyfriend." She said to me in the email "Can your man give me piano lessons today?" After reading the end of that sentence, I went into somewhat of a rage. That term has always bothered me. I take that phrase literally by reasons that it sounds like enslavement or ownership rather than endearment (which was her offense). The way I see this is that human life isn't a commodity. People are people. It's a shame that today, humans are still being used as commodity in horrific ways. Take the Acholi children in Uganda for example who were stolen by the Lord's Resistance Army. Stealing children and using them as rebel soldiers against their own free will is enslavement and ownership. Young girls are used a sex slave due to their gender. These innocent children are the byproduct of political violence. Doesn't that just make your blood boil? My blood is at frying level, bring on the fried chicken! Having to call my significant other as my own personal creature just serves as a reminder of ownership. Just like the situation of human trafficking in Cambodia, Romania, Mexico, etc. Am I wrong to see it that way? If you believe so, then in my offense, the phrase "your man" or "my man" is slang. Sure, there are many variations of the phrase but I tend to see it as "Gurl, yo man be cheatin' on you." Why not step away from slang and use real terminolgy? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that statement, but the phrase is indeed slang. The reason why I take that phrase so literally is that it just serves as a reminder that enslavement still goes continues. This is something that I don't want to associate myself in. Maybe I'm taking it too far, but I tend to over-think things. Just to clarify, I see nothing wrong with everyone else making reference to their significant others as "your man" or "your woman" as long as it has nothing to do with me. I have no problem with people using that phrase and do not condemn those that do. It's their choice and as long as it isn't harming anyone else, I am all for it. I just don't like the term being referred to myself. I am probably taking it a bit too far, but I won't ever change my mind on it. I have given it much thought for the past five years and still have yet to change my decision on the term. After giving her a less condensed explanation of how I felt about the term, she agreed to stop calling my significant others (past, present and future) "my man." We've been friends for five years and she had always ignored my requests for her to stop. She always saw how uncomfortable I looked when she used that phrase. If she were truly my friend and cared so much about my well being, wouldn't she had honored my request five years ago and stop without me having to explain myself? If I say stop, it means stop. Honor it.
